April 20

Lucy Cannon once again correctly identified the quote "What a fitting end to your life's pursuits. You're about to become a permanent addition to this archaeological field. Who knows? In a thousand years, even you may be worth something." from Raiders of the Lost Ark from 1981 starring one of my favorite actors Harrison Ford.

Try your hand at this week's quote:

"Well what am I supposed to do? You won't answer my calls. You change your number.I mean, I'm not gonna be ignored, Dan!

In Theaters:

State of Play - This is the new Russell Crowe movie. The crop of good movies available today is scarce and this is a diamond. The cast is stellar: Crowe, Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren, Rachael McAdams, Robin Wright Penn, Jeff Daniels and Jason Bateman to name a few. The script is tight and the mystery keeps your attention throughout. It is based on a British miniseries. Make sure to stay for the credits as it is done in a creative way. Sy thought Penn was miscast, but I thought everything about the movie was quite good. A good movie to catch especially on the upcoming rainy days.
:-):-):-)

April 18

Since I posted Roberta's Reviews later in the evening, it gave the west coast people a chance to slip in and identify the quote: "You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the New West. You know....morons." Eric Sherman was the first person with the correct answer of Blazing Saddles a Mel Brooke classic from 1974.

This week's quote:

"What a fitting end to your life's pursuits. You're about to become a permanent addition to this archaeological field. Who knows? In a thousand years, even you may be worth something."

On Netflix:

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - I wanted to see this movie especially since Penelope Cruz won the academy award for best supporting actress. This is classic Woody Allen. If you don't like his work, don't see this. A story about two American tourists who find love and perhaps themselves in Spain. Penelope Cruz plays the crazy ex wife of JavierBardem and does a good job with the role; better than the other actresses nominated for this award, I am not sure. I particularly liked the unknown actress, Rebecca Hall, as she made me feel her pain. Scarlett Johansson, Woody Allen's new muse, does a fine job with her role as the free spirited American.
:-):-)O:-)

On Netflix (either on DVD or instant play)

The Stone Angel
- This film starring Ellen Burstyn is the story of an elderly woman who flees rather than be put in a nursing home and relives her life through flashbacks. Burstyn is one of my favorite actors, but this story has been done time and time again. Ellen Page, from Juno, has a small part in this film. It was a good way to spent about two hours when nothing interested me on TV and Sy was away.
:-):-)

My VCR and DVR are set and ready for tonight's Grey Gardens and The Courgeous Heart of Irena Sendler tomorrow; both of which received good reviews. In addition, some of my favorite program have good stories Sunday with "Desperate Housewives" killing off Edie and the new season of "Law and Order Criminal Intent" premiering on USA with Jeff Goldblum. Some many choices so little time!

In the meantime, it is beautiful today on the east coast so forego watching TV and going to the movies and enjoy the outdoors.

April 13

t's been awhile since I posted any reviews since we were out of town last week, but as they say, "I'm back."

Since I can't find the old email with the the first person who correctly answered that "Don't worry! As long as you hit the wire with the connecting hook at precisely eighty-eight miles per hour the instant the lightning strikes the tower...everything will be fine." came from Back to the Future, 1985 I will leave it up to that individual to respond to all to this message to let everyone know. I promise to keep better records this time.

Here's this week's quote which is much harder, good luck:

"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the New West. You know....morons."

On Netflix:

I've Loved You So Long - This is a French film with subtitles starring Kristen Scott Thomas who reunites with her sister after eighteen years. I won't give too much information as I don't want to give the story away. It is touching, predictable, but enjoyable. It won the Golden Globe award this year for best foreign film.
:-):-)O:-)

On TV:

"Dancing With The Stars": Since I didn't give you my opinion on last week's outcome, here it is. Although both David Alan Grier and Lawrence Taylor are in a different class than say Shawn Johnson, they certainly danced better than Steve-O. Since I have never voted, I guess I can't complain, but it is time for even his fans to realize it is time for him to go.

Just finished watching this week's installment. The top dancers are still strong. This week I believe Steve-O and Ty Murray will be in the bottom with Ty Murray going home. We'll see what happens tomorrow night.

Set your DVR for Saturday night, April 18 and Sunday night, April 19.

HBO is airing an original movie on Saturday night, April 18 called Grey Gardens starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore. This is the story of Jackie Kennedy's odd relatives, the Beales, who ended up living in squalor. Looks like a good flick. I believe it starts at 8:00 p.m.

Also Sunday night on CBS on the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, " The Courage of Irena Sendler" follows the true story of Irena Sendler a Polish Catholic Social Worker who saved 2500 children during WWII. Anna Paquin stars in this movie. I read about it in TV Guide and it looks interesting. I believe it starts at 9:00.

Book Recommendation:

My Forest Edge book group recently read Stolen Lives Twenty Years in a Desert Jail by Malika Oufkir and Michele Fitoussi. It is the true story. It is hard to comprehend that it could have happened in our own time. Very engaging and thought provoking! I would certainly put it on my must read list.

Enjoy,

Roberta

Helpful Information

Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do

For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and

kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have

with you.)

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave

emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find

Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an

Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND

Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

THIRD

Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys

*3370#.Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the

instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will

get charged when you charge your cell phone next

time.

FOURTH

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the

following Digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service

provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there

would be no point in people stealing mobile

phones.

And Finally.....

FIFTH

Free Directory Service for Cells

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75or more for 411

information calls when they don't have to.Most of us do not carry a

telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a

problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply

dial:(800)FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all.

Program this into your cell phone now.
