October 28, 2008

This edition is a bit strange. As most of you know, Sy and I just returned from California and as is the case, I watched as many movies as I could on the plane so here are my reviews of the films viewed on the flight. All of them are available on Netflix and one was even on my cue.

Swing Vote - Very predictable film. Cashing in on the upcoming election. I have been disappointed with Kevin Cosner of late. I still remember him in his heyday of Dancing With Wolves and No Way Out (check those two out to see really good films.) Back to this film, nothing outlandish and Stanley Tucci once again gives a good performance, but the film itself is nothing to write home about. The young actress playing his daughter is the "smart" kid who teaches Dad a lesson. If you have nothing to do, watch this otherwise rent classic Cosner movies.

Then She Found Me
(I think this is the exact title, but look up Helen Hunt and you'll find it) A nice story about a good Jewish girl and how she and her birth mother hook up in addition to other problems. I must admit I am a Colin Firth fan and he is in this. Matthew Broderick plays a very unattractive character and I wondered why he even accepted the role. I would have liked the relationship between the Helen Hunt character and the Bette Midler character to be more developed and forget about a lot of the 'other" stuff, but it is a good woman movie (sorry Eric!). Helen Hunt directed this movie as well and I believe this was one of her first attempts at directing. Curl up with a nice cup of tea on a cool day like today and watch.

Kit Kitchridge (Once again not sure of the spelling, but close enough) This is a film adaptation of the American Girl servies. Wendy took the girls to see it and told me I would like it and she was right. A great movie to take your niece, or daughter or granddaughter. What struck me was how relavent it was to today. It takes place during the depression where people are losing their homes and people are forced to do things to keep their family afloat. The young actress playing Kit is quite good, but once again Stanley Tucci is in a really good role as well as Joan Cusack. Although I would have not gone to the theater to see it, it is worth the watch.

Well that's it for now. Enjoy watching!
